There was considerable uproar when Cristiano Ronaldo won the UEFA Goal of the Season award in August.Ronaldo’s stunning bicycle kick for Real Madrid in their Champions League semi-final against Juventus came out on top in a poll, collecting nearly 200,000 of the total 346,915 votes. But many were unhappy with the vote, believing that Gareth Bale’s goal against Liverpool in the Champions League final deserved to win.The Welshman’s spectacular effort - a bicycle kick into the top corner of Loris Karius' goal - has gone down as one of the best goals ever in a Champions League final. But it wasn’t even shortlisted when the list was whittled down to 11 goals.“I can’t actually believe they bothered to nominate any others, it was the winner, it’s as simple as that,” Wales boss Ryan Giggs said about Bale’s goal.Yet Ronaldo’s goal, against the team he would sign for in the summer, prevailed.

Buffon's reaction to Ronaldo's goal

So good was it that Juventus fans inside the Juventus Stadium gave Ronaldo a standing ovation.

And it wasn’t just the fans who were left impressed. Gianluigi Buffon was, too.

New footage has emerged showing the Italian goalkeeper, who signed for Paris Saint-Germain in July, giving Ronaldo a thumbs up after his goal.

It’s a pretty classy gesture that sums up Buffon’s character.

Ronaldo, 33, later said that his goal against Juventus was the best of his career.

“This was spectacular, I jumped very high, so obviously it's a goal that stays in the memory and is surely my best goal," he told Real Madrid TV.

Los Blancos were leading 1-0 when Ronaldo leapt to fire home Dani Carvajal’s cross.

He wheeled away in celebration, placing his hands on his hips, and even Juventus fans stood up to applaud.

Little did they know that they would soon have the pleasure of cheering Ronaldo on a weekly basis.
