The WWE has made some strange booking decisions down the years, we think that is safe to say.

How about having Demon Finn Balor beat AJ Styles at TLC last year - the first-ever meeting between the two former Bullet Club leaders - and then he jobbed to Kane the next night on Raw? Clean, might we add.

But even that little gem pales in comparison to some of the things we saw at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia.

First off, we saw Brock Lesnar dismantle Braun Strowman in a glorified squash match for the vacant Universal title following a pre-match attack from Baron Corbin that made no sense.

Then, Shane McMahon won the WWE World Cup and the right to call himself the 'best in the world' - despite not being in the tournament at all of participating in qualifying rounds, quarter-finals or semi-finals.

Many fans, like us, were left simply wondering why?

Initial reports suggested it was for a heel turn that would be executed on SmackDown Live in the coming weeks.

However, with Becky Lynch ruled out for Survivor Series through injury shortly after, Vince McMahon decided to turn Daniel Bryan heel and put the WWE title on him, which changed plans for Shan-O-Mac.

Now, Dave Meltzer is reporting that the follow-up to Shane McMahon's World Cup win will take place in early 2019 and will lead to a feud that culminates at WrestleMania 35.

Of course, Dolph Ziggler has the biggest gripe with McMahon's win and he was rumoured to face Shane last year. Still, that bout would seem somewhat underwhelming.

Shane has faced some of the top talent in the company since returning at WrestleMania 32 to face The Undertaker in Hell in a Cell and chances are, he will have another marquee outing in New Jersey.

One can dream of who he is likely to face, but being able to call himself the 'best in the world' certainly springs a couple of far-fetched names to mind...

(Ahem, Chris Jericho and CM Punk).
