With Deontay Wilder's defence of the WBC World title against Tyson Fury edging closer, questions over just how popular the heavyweight clash is proving, continue to arise.

The American's showdown with the Gypsy King will take place at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, on December 1, but with just a week to go reports over the last few days suggested there were still plenty of tickets up for sale.

In the UK, fights of this magnitude have seen the likes of Wembley (90,000) and the Principality (74,000) all sold out, but Eddie Hearn did admit he would be 'astonished' if the Staples Centre receives 7,000 fans given the recent speculation.

Hearn said: “I’m looking at that seat map, they haven’t even opened the top tier of that arena, every seat price is still available.

“So if they’ve done 7,000 tickets I’ll be astonished.”

However, Frank Warren has hit back at fears the show - which also features Luis Ortiz and Joe Joyce on the undercard - will not sell out the 20,000 capacity arena.

Warren is confident those reports are misleading and has been informed sales have been going well since tickets were put on the market.

"A lot of people are going over there,” Warren told Boxing Social, “There’s been a tremendous interest from the British people and I understand they’re going well.

“Al Haymon’s [Wilder’s advisor’s] office told us that they’re doing extremely well, so we’re pleased with that.”

And Tyson Fury's promoter also aimed another jibe at Hearn, stating that the Matchroom boss is actually the source of the rumours around ticket sales and he should spend more time being concerned with some of his upcoming shows in the States.

He continued: “You know, again, that comes from one source all the time.

“If I was them I’d be worrying about how many tickets I’ve sold for [Demetrius] Andrade, how many tickets I’ve sold for Daniel Jacobs.

“Worry about those shows. Let us worry about our shows and he should worry about his shows.”
