WWE is protecting Drew McIntyre ahead of his huge push at extreme lengths

During his first run with the WWE several years ago, many dubbed Drew McIntyre as The Chosen One thanks to Vince McMahon admiring him, but he never lived up to that expectation.

Now in his second run in the WWE, The Sinister Scot is reportedly on the path for another huge push in the company, one that could potentially see him win the Universal Championship in 2019.

Due to his popularity thanks to his run on the independent circuit between his two WWE spells and talent in the ring, it shouldn't be surprising for fans to hear that McIntyre is being built to become the new face of WWE following Roman Reigns' temporary departure to battle leukaemia.

However, as discovered by Cageside Seats, WWE is actually going to extreme lengths to protect the former Intercontinental Champion ahead of his huge push at the top of the main roster.

Since making his main roster return on Monday Night Raw back in April after a spell in NXT, The Sinister Scot has wrestled in 28 matches on Raw and PPV, winning 16 of them.

From the 12 matches in which he didn't win, McIntyre has not been pinned.

From those 12, five have ended in disqualifications, four have seen pinfalls taken by Dolph Ziggler, one has seen an over the top rope elimination taken by Ziggler, one pinfall has been taken by Finn Balor, and the final match ended in a count out.

Most likely, Vince and WWE are protecting McIntyre by not having him be pinned during a match so that he looks strong for an upcoming push for the Universal Championship.

Drew McIntyre is yet to be pinned since being called up to Raw earlier this year

Who that match could be against, and when it will take place remains to be seen, as currently, it looks as though Braun Strowman will face Brock Lesnar for the Universal title at the Royal Rumble next year if the former beats Baron Corbin at TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs next month.

It wouldn't be surprising to see McIntyre take on Strowman for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 35 since they're arguably two of the biggest superstars on Raw at the moment.

As to which one will be holding the title walking into the show though is anyone's call.
