Niko Kranjcar has confirmed he will quit Tottenham if he continues to find himself on the fringes of the team.

Croatia midfielder Kranjcar wants to stay at White Hart Lane but only if he is guaranteed more first-team football. The 26-year-old started for Spurs for the first time this season in Saturday's 4-2 defeat at Bolton and may keep his place in Tuesday's home game against Sunderland.

But should he eventually find himself back behind Aaron Lennon or Rafael van der Vaart when the duo both return from injury, he will look to move in January, and he told Sportske Novosti: "I feel great at Tottenham, so if I could play regularly for my team, then my first option would be to stay at White Hart Lane. But if I don't play much, then I will have to look for other solutions."

He added: "Nobody wants to be a reserve and that goes for me too.

"I enjoy playing football, so that is the first thing on the agenda. If there is not enough space for me at Tottenham then I will have to think about the next step in my career.

"I repeat, I feel great here, but if I don't play every game, I feel a little bit empty."

Kranjcar's father Zlatko, who is also head coach of Montenegro, revealed his son would be prepared to join Liverpool but that Italy would be his preferred destination were he to leave London.

He told Jutarnji List: "If he didn't have ambition, he would stay at Tottenham and vegetate for the next three years. He has a great deal, but one just can't match money with his ambitions.

"Niko would like to stay in London, but he is also ready to leave England if he could move to Serie A.

"Liverpool is a club which would interest him but, then again, why not Italy?"
