Barcelona have had some truly great footballers on their books over the past decade.
Names like Andreas Iniesta, Xavi, Thierry Henry, Carles Puyol and of course, Lionel Messi immediately spring to mind when you think of the Spanish mega-club.
While Messi has been the face of the club for many a year now, he has been backed by a supporting cast that any other footballer would kill for.
However, one name that often slips by under the radar is Sergio Busquets.
The defensive midfielder has been a regular starter at the Camp Nou for ages now and has stood firm at the heart of the midfield while countless other teammates have come and gone.
Busquets made his debut for the Catalans in 2008 and has gone on to make 499 appearances for the club.
The pressure that comes with playing for a club of Barcelona’s size can often be overwhelming but Busquets has turned up and done a superb job everytime he’s pulled on that famous shirt.
A one-club man, Busquets is on the brink of joining the 500 club at Barca and he really does deserve it.
His work behind the scenes has been one of the biggest contributing factors to the many trophies Barca have won over the last ten years.
While he might not get the credit the likes of Messi, Luis Suarez or Iniesta gets, his contribution is just as important.
With his 500th appearance coming up though, Busquets is finally getting some well deserved attention but from an unlikely, but very appreciative source.
Manchester United legend turned pundit Rio Ferdinand took to Twitter to show his appreciation for the 30-year-old’s performances for his team over the past few seasons.
Ferdinand tweeted a compilation video showcasing Busquets best skills over the years and how consistently he has executed them.
Ferdinand even went as far as to describe the video as “pure football’.
Ferdinand got it spot on.
Only Busquets is capable of wriggling his way out of some of the hairy situations he found himself in during that video.
His passing range is also highlighted and it is truly brilliant while some of his touches show that he is truly the complete footballer.
He really has been a fantastic player and deserves all the plaudits he can get.News Now - Sport News
