David Moyes and Manchester United was most definitely not a match made in heaven.

The former Everton manager was given the impossible task of filling the biggest boots in football after being handed the reigns to one of the biggest clubs in the world by Sir Alex Ferguson.

Moyes was given a glowing endorsement by his predecessor, who hand-picked him to continue his sterling work.

However, Moyes’ time at Old Trafford simply never took off as he failed to step out of the shadow left by the legendary Ferguson.

In the end, he lasted just ten months at Old Trafford before being given the boot.

Since then Moyes has really rattled about all over the place, struggling to find a permanent home for himself - resembling something close to a managerial nomad.

Spells at Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham have followed, but you would not describe any of those as being terribly successful.

There are some though, that feel that Moyes was unlucky during his time in Manchester and deserved more time to really make his mark on the team.

Had a few more things gone his way, it really could have been very different for the Scot.

One of the biggest turning points for Moyes was his pursuit of German midfielder Toni Kroos who was apparently very close to signing for the Red Devils.

Having a player of the ilk of Kroos on the books would have been a massive coup for Moyes proving that he could attract big-name players to his project.

In the end, Kroos chose Real Madrid over United and Moyes’ midfield struggled as a result.

However, speaking on TalkSport on Monday, Moyes revealed that he and Kroos had, in fact, agreed a deal in principle for the German to sign for United.

Moyes even revealed he went as far as to meet with Kroos and his family during his time at Bayern Munich.

“Toni Kroos had agreed to come Manchester United with me. I met him and his wife and we agreed it all when he was at Bayern Munich.” said Moyes.

What a difference Kross could have made to Moyes’ time in the Old Trafford hot-seat.

You can’t help but feel his decision to choose Madrid has been justified though as he has gone on to win four Champions League titles with the Spanish mega-club.

For Moyes, it will always be a case of what could have been at United.

Perhaps he should’ve just stayed at Everton.
