Liverpool are unbeaten after 13 Premier League matches this season and yet many fans are still wondering when they will start firing again.

Last season, Jurgen Klopp’s side often had matches won by half-time, with their front-three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino scoring goals for fun.

This campaign this been slightly different, though.

Not only are they scoring fewer goals - 14 fewer than Manchester City in the league - but they appear to abandon their high-pressing style at times.

But having conceded just five goals in their 13 league matches this season, it’s enabled the Reds to pick up wins without being at their fluent best.

With the back-four looking solid in-front of Alisson in goal, Liverpool fans are just waiting for the attacking trio to start playing like season once again.

However, that might not happen again.

That’s according to Jamie Carragher who now believes this is a different Liverpool side.

“It's interesting because the narrative all season has been about when Liverpool are going to start playing like last season," he said on Sky Sports.

“However, it may get to the stage where we ask are Liverpool maybe slightly different this season.

“Don't forget there's no Philippe Coutinho. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain brought great drive and pace from midfield. The front three were away at the World Cup also. You've now got Virgil van Dijk and a goalkeeper (Alisson).

“Is it a little bit more like the Liverpool teams I played in? Last season I said this team plays football that our teams never played. But it's actually now going back a little bit to maybe [Rafa] Benitez and [Gerard] Houllier's sort of time.

“They probably do play a little bit more football than we did but they can actually rely on the defence to win them a game.”

Carragher might be onto something there.

It seems Klopp has ditched his ‘heavy metal football’ for something more solid and secure.

It may have somewhat stifled Salah, Mane and Firmino but it seems to be getting the results right now.
