Marko Arnautovic has been linked with the red of Manchester for months now and with the January transfer window on the horizon, many West Ham fans were fearing that the Austrian may be making the highly anticipated move to Old Trafford.

Arnautovic has impressed for the Hammers since signing from Stoke City in 2017, bagging 11 goals last campaign and continuing his goalscoring form this season.

Despite this, the striker is now 29 and with three years left on his contract, Arnautovic is expected to cost a hefty £50 million. A fee which United are reluctant to pay.

This has led to United refusing to make a bid for Arnautovic in January, instead monitoring his progress throughout the remainder of the season.

Another factor seems to be the managerial situation at Manchester United, the club's interest in the player will depend on whether Jose Mourinho remains with the Red Devils beyond the end of this season, according to the Telegraph

Former West Ham and Manchester United boss David Moyes believes that Arnautovic is 'ready for the next step' and 'could play in a top-four side for sure'.

The Scottish manager also added however that West Ham 'need to keep him' in order to secure Premier League safety this season.

The Austrian has bagged five out of the Hammers 14 league goals so far this season, along with a solitary assist to his name.

By the looks of it, West Ham will do just that, but once the summer transfer window opens, do not be surprised if United come calling flashing their cash.

Manchester United may be forced into a buy with no less than eight players approaching the finals months of their contract - including forwards Anthony Martial and Andreas Pereira.

There is no doubt that Arnautovic will be licking his chops at the prospect of playing for such a big club- despite their recent troubles.
