Samoa Joe brought up Jeff Hardy's past with shocking comments on SmackDown

Samoa Joe

In recent years, WWE has had a wave of new stars dominate the main event scene - the likes of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Braun Strowman and even Jinder Mahal, just to name a few.

But after all these years, Jeff Hardy is still one of the constant excitements and must-sees of the WWE week, still possessing the same athleticism he did when he was in his 20s.

Following a recent run with the United States Championship, Hardy was involved in a brutal feud with Randy Orton, culminating in a Hell In A Cell bout which saw Brother Nero crash through a table from the roof of the structure.

He's had a bit of an easy time since then, competing in the WWE World Cup and defeating Andrade 'Cien' Almas last week to regain some momentum.

Last night on SmackDown Live, the whole roster celebrated Hardy's 20 years as an active wrestler, but you always had the feeling that someone was going to disrupt proceedings - after all, these things never run smoothly.

And suspicions were correct as none-other than Samoa Joe decided to make his way out from the back to interrupt the Charismatic Enigma.

Joe wasn't about to go soft on Hardy either, going straight for the jugular by referencing to Jeff's past addictions of drugs and alcohol.

"Forgive my tardiness, I was in the back popping some bottles getting ready to come out here and have a toast, but I think we can all agree having a bottle of champagne around you isn't the best idea."

Yikes.

Samoa Joe interrupted Jeff Hardy's 20-year anniversary celebrations on SmackDown.

Joe continued on his tirade by saying: "And thank you to WWE for that wonderful anthology of all your greatest moments. It must have been a special treat for you considering at the time you probably weren't coherent enough to remember any of it."

The Samoan of course referring to Hardy's repeated failures of WWE's drugs policy, where he was suspended numerous times down the years.

This newfound turn of events sees a new rivalry begin for both men, and is eerily reminiscent of both men's times at TNA Wrestling.

And with things taking a personal turn already, it really brings a lot more to the rivalry at such an early stage.

But you'd have to think with the defeats he's been taking lately, Joe needs to win this more than Hardy does to look like a major player on the blue brand once again.
