Elias is currently one of the most beloved superstars by the WWE Universe in the company today across both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live.

His recent face turn has given WWE fans another good reason to back The Drifter and chant along to his 'Walk With Elias' catchphrase at his cue in the middle of the ring.

It seems as though WWE officials had taken note of Elias' popularity with the fans and they were ready to execute some big plans for him, but they, unfortunately, reversed that decision.

According to WrestleVotes, Elias was originally scheduled to win and take the Intercontinental Championship away from Seth Rollins last month as part of Dean Ambrose's heel turn against The Architect.

However, WrestleVotes also notes that due to the unfortunate news of Roman Reigns' leukaemia diagnosis last month, these plans had to be changed. Ambrose will now face Rollins for the Intercontinental title instead.

It would have been great to see Elias capture the Intercontinental Championship, and this would have been his first title in the WWE as well since he never won one during his time in NXT.

There are reports that The Drifter could be involved in a match at TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs if Braun Strowman is unable to compete due to his elbow injury.

WWE had plans for Elias to win the Intercontinental title

Elias could participate at TLC next month in a six-man tag team match alongside Strowman and Finn Balor against Baron Corbin, Drew McIntyre, and Bobby Lashley if The Monster Among Men is unable to compete.

The Drifter deserves a run with a title as he's been one of the most popular superstars on Raw since making his main roster debut in April last year.

WWE fans will be keeping their fingers crossed that it isn't long until they see Elias with gold around his waist, but it's unfortunately really that it hasn't happened already as he's a fan favourite amongst the WWE Universe.
