Adonis Stevenson was boxing’s oldest champion. He held the commendable title of being the sport’s longest reigning champion. The Canadian held both the WBC and lineal light-heavyweight, which he had managed to retain again and again for over five years. The champion is perhaps most famous for beating Tony Bellew to defend his title back in 2013. However, Stevenson suffered only his second loss of his career at the hands and gloves of Oleksandr Gvozdyk in Quebec City to end his long reign in unfortunate circumstances. After a flurry of hard-hitting swift combinations to the face and body of Stevenson, he crashed onto the canvas and looked to be in serious trouble right away. The 41-year-old almost entirely collapsed in the corner of the ring. The fighter failed to get back up even after the count, and had to exit the ring via a stretcher, and the venue in an ambulance. The fighter has been in hospital since leaving the fight and is in a critical condition it is understood, with several media outlets, including the BBC, reporting on the situation. You can watch the conclusion of Stevenson's fight in the videos below.

His promoter Yvon Michel, obviously emotional, said that his fighter is currently in intensive care.

The boxing community took to social media to express their sympathies for a great champion of the sport.
