Controversy over the referee's count

There was a bit of controversy in referee Jack Reiss’ count, with many Wilder fans feeling as though Fury was on the canvas for longer than 10 seconds.

Indeed, Wilder himself said, per the Metro: “I don’t know why they didn’t start the count earlier.”

However, that thought has been debunked by BoxingHype on Twitter.

They’ve made a video that clearly shows Fury rose to his feet before 10 seconds were counted.

There were 9.90 seconds on the clock when Fury was up.

While Fury was down, Wilder set about shimmying in an early celebration. He couldn’t believe that his opponent was able to get up.

“I don’t know how he got up,” the American said after the fight, per the Metro. “I saw his eyes roll back in his head.

“Only God knows how he got back up… it’ll be easier for me to hit him [in a rematch].”

The demand for a rematch is certainly there following the encounter.

Two of top heavyweights in the world went at it for 12 rounds - boxing fans would love to see it happen all over again.

And with Anthony Joshua being the man to beat, there promises to be some entertaining fights in 2019.
