Manchester United had to claw back from two goals down to limp to a 2-2 draw against lowly Southampton on Saturday.

United are now eight points off the top four, winning just six of their opening 14 league games.

Their points tally of 22 is equivalent to that of the 2013/14 season, when United were managed by a certain Scot named David Moyes.

The United fans have been despondent for the majority of this season and Mourinho's comments to the media have certainly not improved the situation.

In what seems like a sinking ship, fans have been looking for any positive remarks from the manager or the players to cling on to, however Juan Mata has done completely the opposite.

Juan Mata has suggested a lack of belief within United squad

The Spaniard's latest post on his blog has typified the current mood in the United dressing and for anyone supporting the club.

"Unfortunately, I feel as though it isn’t the time for posts," he wrote. "I imagine, and understand completely, that you will not want to read words that, although honest, won’t be of much comfort to you.

"Therefore, I am only going to publish this to thank you all, as ever, for your support. Thanks a lot."

The 30-year-old's near-silence is unusual as despite United's poor form, Mata usually remains honest about poor results, even against the Red Devil's bitter rivals.

Mata was very humble in defeat after United's derby defeat against Manchester City.

"It is a tough defeat to take. We had out chances and the team fought, but they performed better and there's nothing else to do but congratulate them."

After the weekend's game at St. Mary's, only Ander Herrera - who bagged United's equaliser on the day - made a comment to the media after the game with the rest of the team snubbing reporters.

This further highlights the disgruntlement surrounding the Manchester club and things do not appear to be improving any time soon.
