Another game, another stunning performance from Arsenal's new hero, Lucas Torreira.
Sunday's 4-2 victory over Tottenham in the north London derby saw the Uruguayan win his third man of the match award in four games, he was that good.
Torreira protected Arsenal's back four superbly and even got himself on the scoresheet with a lovely finish that completed the comeback from 2-1 down.
In typical fashion, though, Torreira was modest about his contribution and instead praised those around him after the game, even lauding manager Unai Emery for his half-time team talk.
"[Emery said] to be calm, to continue playing because there were 45 more minutes left, that we keep attacking because in the second half we were going to find more spaces," he said, per the Mirror.
"In fact, it happened and we scored the goals at key moments. In the first half we started very strong, pressing very high, sometimes we managed to steal the ball very high.
"We had many chances after scoring the first goal. Then, for different reasons, because of football too, they scored two goals and went ahead. In the second half we made some changes.
"The players who came on from the bench did very well. We listened to the manager and we improved many things. That worked for us to get the victory."
Torreira was signed in the summer as a defensive midfielder, yet Arsenal fans have noticed how the 22-year-old always seems keen to join in attacks.
He almost scored a 20-yard screamer against Spurs and hit the woodwork during the 2-1 win over Bournemouth on November 25.
It turns out Emery has been telling Torreira to push forward before every game because he knows he has attacking qualities, which just shows how tactically astute Emery is.
"I have the confidence of my teammates," added Torreira, "and the coach tells me before every game to try to get forward.
"Obviously when we are out on the pitch we like to create chances to score. In the previous match I had hit the post, going so close. On Sunday I got lucky and I am so happy about that."
Torreira has breathed new life into Arsenal's midfield and the fact he's a threat going forward makes him an even more exciting prospect.
It's no wonder Arsenal fans are so delighted with him.News Now - Sport News
