Liverpool kept pace with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table with a 3-1 win at Burnley on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klopp had enough confidence to ring the changes at a stadium that hasn’t been straightforward for the Reds during the German’s reign.

Liverpool lost 2-0 at Turf Moor in 2016 and required a late winner from Ragnar Klavan to secure a 2-1 win last season.

Yet this is the strongest Liverpool squad that Klopp has had at his disposal and seven changes were made from the team that defeated Everton in the Merseyside derby.

Klopp may have been regretting his decision when Jack Cork gave the Clarets the lead in the 54th minute.

There was to be no upset, though. James Milner provided a swift equaliser before Roberto Firmino made it 2-1.

Xherdan Shaqiri sealed all three points in injury time.

Man City fan is pretty rattled

The result means that Liverpool remain two points behind Man City through the first 15 games of the season.

Pep Guardiola’s side had the title sewn up in April last season but it seems like they’re going to be pushed to the very end this time around.

And for some City supporters, that’s an uncomfortable thought.

One has shown just how much Liverpool’s form is getting to him by producing a quite brilliant analogy on Twitter.

User @CraigGritho12, a Man City season ticket holder whose bio reads: ‘Hate Liverpool and Man Utd!’, wrote: “F*** OFF Liverpool they are like wasps at a picnic they won’t F*** OFF!!!”

Excellent.

It’s worth pointing out Craig’s tweet when Liverpool’s starting XI for the match was announced.

He wasn't done even after comparing Liverpool to wasps at a picnic.

It doesn’t seem as if any side will be able to keep up with Liverpool and City this season.

The closest challengers are Tottenham, who are six points behind Liverpool but have tasted defeat four times this season.

Both Chelsea and Arsenal failed to pick up three points on Wednesday - the Blues were beaten by Wolves and Arsenal drew 2-2 against Manchester United - but Virgil van Dijk isn’t ready to rule out their threat just yet.

“I don't see it as a two-horse race," the centre-back told ESPN.

“If you look at everyone around us, Chelsea, Arsenal, then everyone has been doing brilliantly so far and it's going to be very interesting.”

We can’t help but feel he’s just being modest.
