When Daniel Bryan had to retire because of the serious concussion side effects he was suffering, plenty of fans wanted nothing more than to see him lift the WWE title one more time.
After two years on the shelf, the Leader of the Yes Movement was cleared to return to the ring and he got the news just in time to feature at WrestleMania 34.
However, despite a heroes return to action with SmackDown Live, Bryan hasn't quite been able to reach the dizzy heights he enjoyed before his sudden retirement.
Something appeared to be missing. Although he had an entertaining feud with The Miz, he couldn't quite capture the magic he once had.
Now, Daniel Bryan is the WWE champion again and he has done it the nasty way, the way The Miz always warned us.
Appearing to be a snarling heel who thinks his life as a vegan makes him better than everybody else, Bryan now sits atop of Tuesday nights and is settling in nicely to his new persona.
After the last episode of SmackDown Live, Bryan got on the mic and was informed that it was a child's birthday in the crowd. Of course, the 'new' Daniel Bryan isn't the type to just wish the child a happy birthday.
Take a look at the video below to see Bryan's heel work at it's finest:
Many fans had imagined that The Miz would win the WWE title and Bryan would win the title from him at WrestleMania 35, but now that Bryan has had a change of character his path to New Jersey is much less clear.
According to reports, Vince McMahon only decided to put the WWE title on Bryan because he didn't want to see Brock Lesnar Vs AJ Styles once again at Survivor Series.
Chances are, McMahon probably doesn't have long-term plans formulated for Bryan or the title, but there are certainly a lot of possibilities with Bryan as the top heel on the show.
