With Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez already first-team regulars and the likes of Harry Wilson impressing out on loan, the future looks very bright for Liverpool. But can you name the youngest player to have ever represented the club? Many Liverpool fans may well have forgotten all about Jerome Sinclair. But Sinclair holds the record of the youngest Liverpool player ever, making his first-team debut at the age of just 16 years 6 days.It came in a League Cup tie against West Brom back in 2012.However, Sinclair went to only make a further four appearances at Anfield before a £4 million move to Watford in 2016.But where is Sinclair now?Well, after failing to break into Watford’s first-team, the striker has been out on loan and now currently finds himself at League One Sunderland. But his career is not going the way many thought it would when he made his Liverpool debut shortly after his 16th birthday.Instead, he’s struggling to play regularly for the Black Cats.In fact, he was used in the Checkatrade Trophy earlier this week to give him some much-needed game time.

'NON-LEAGUE LEVEL AT BEST'

And despite scoring a penalty - after stealing the ball away from youngster Benji Kimpioka - many Sunderland fans slammed his performance with one saying he’s “non-league level at best.”

Also, an article appeared on The Boot Room this week which questioned whether Sinclair - now 22 - can kick on after scoring just his second goal of the season.

“One forgotten man got his name on the scoresheet last night,” the article said.

“But can that give the young striker the confidence to kick-start his career after a forgettable start to life in senior football? Sinclair played the first 87 minutes in Sunderland’s win over Notts County and was underwhelming for the most part.

“By dropping down to League One, Sinclair would have expected to take the third tier by storm but it hasn’t quite gone to plan just yet.”

Josh Maja, who is just 19-years-old, is currently being preferred to Sinclair in the first-team.

Six years after making his Liverpool debut, Sinclair certainly wouldn’t have seen himself sitting on the bench in League One.

But that’s the sad reality.

Of course, there’s plenty of time for Sinclair to get his career back on track but it will take a lot of hard work to force his way into Sunderland’s starting XI.
