Liverpool have confirmed striker Fernando Torres has suffered an ankle ligament strain but will still report for international duty with Spain this week.
The Reds striker required treatment during the second half of Saturday's 2-0 Barclays Premier League defeat at Stoke but still completed the 90 minutes. Torres will now be assessed by Spain staff ahead of Wednesday's international friendly against Portugal in Lisbon on Wednesday.
An update on Liverpool's website, www.liverpoolfc.tv, read: "The Reds' medical team have been in contact with their Spanish counterparts to keep them up to date on the 26-year-old's condition."
After a slow start to the season, Torres had shown signs of rediscovering his form with four goals in four games prior to the Stoke trip.
He has endured a difficult calendar year after knee operations in January and April and suffering a groin injury playing for Spain in the World Cup final.
