It's quite hard to believe, but it's been seven weeks since Roman Reigns came out to open Monday Night Raw to vacate his Universal Championship.

Rumours had circulated that week that Reigns had suffered an injury, but no-one was ready for what he was about to tell the world.

Reigns came out of his character for the announcement, revealing his real name as Joe before announcing his awful news.

Uncovering the shocking details of how he was battling leukaemia for the second time, the Big Dog said a temporary goodbye to the WWE Universe before embracing with Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins on the stage.

The locker room sought to personally wish Reigns well once he got to the back, but one man who wasn't able to was John Cena.

The 16-time world champion was in the final stages of filming a movie in China, which has now completed.

As a well-respected member of the locker room and a leader before he turned part-time, Cena would have always been there for superstars in their time of need.

And seemingly that's no different when he's taking a prolonged absence from the company, as he told the story of what he communicated to Reigns the night he told the world about his ordeal.

“I texted him the day of the announcement just letting him know that he is in really good hands," Cena told Chris Van Vliet of WSVN-TV.

"He is part of a very exclusive fraternity. We all love him for what he’s done. We all respect the fact that he is taking care of his health which is first and foremost. I told him if he needs anything he knows where to find me.”

“I know Joe. I know Joe’s a tough SOB. I don’t ever expect: ‘Hey man, I need this.’ I don’t ever expect to get that text, but if I do I think we have a mutual understanding that he knows it’s as good as done.”

Cena is all-set to return to the WWE in the near future, being advertised for live events over the Christmas period, and a Monday Night Raw return on January 7 - a well-needed one when the red brand needs stars right now.

And don't be surprised if the leader of the Cenation is a competitor in this years Royal Rumble either.
