Lucas Torreira is making a strong case to be recognised as the signing of the season four months into his Arsenal career. The Uruguayan has been nothing short of a revelation in the Gunners’ midfield following his £26.5 million transfer from Sampdoria last summer. He capped off his remarkable start to life in the Premier League with his goal for his new club against Tottenham of all opponents at the Emirates.Torreira has since been on a hot streak of sorts in the final third, assisting Shkodran Mustafi’s opener against Manchester United before his late bicycle kick secured Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Huddersfield on Saturday. For a defensive midfielder by trade, it’s very tidy work indeed. It’s no surprise the 22-year-old has quickly become a favourite among his new fans, with the likes of Ian Wright hailing him as the recruit they’ve been yearning for.“[Torreira is] the guy we have been looking for in the past three or four seasons,” the legendary striker told BBC Sport, per the Mirror.“Arsenal supporters wanted to know when are we going to sign a defensive midfielder. We have got the guy we needed.“He was magnificent [against Tottenham]. The way he plays, he is everywhere on the pitch. He gets into positions where he can get into people.”As such, the Gunners faithful haven’t been shy about expressing their gratitude to Sampdoria for selling them a player who looks capable of anchoring their midfield for years to come.

It’s difficult to criticise their enthusiasm, especially when comparatively big-money signings so often fail to pay dividends in the modern transfer market.

However, Sampdoria’s English Twitter account has seen fit to take action in response to the constant adoration of their former star.

Check out their hilarious plan to give Arsenal fans somewhere to vent…

“Note to all @Arsenal fans: please don't clog up our match tweets today thanking us for @LTorreira34. We're going to set up a dedicated 'Thanks for #Torreira' email address where you can send us all your thank you messages. Watch this space…”

Hats off to Sampdoria; that’s how social media should be done.

Torreira’s dynamism will be crucial for the remainder of the busy December period, which continues with a visit from Qarabag in the Europa League on Thursday followed by a trip to Southampton next weekend.
