Jurgen Klopp’s transfer business at Liverpool has been nothing short of remarkable.

The German boss has signed the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson to turn Liverpool into genuine title contenders.

But how many can name his first official signing as a Liverpool manager?

It was Marko Grujic, of course.

Just three months after arriving at Anfield, Grujic joined the club from Red Star Belgrade for £5.1 million.

"He's a good boy, a young boy but plays an important role at the moment at Red Star, who are the best team in Serbia," Klopp said at the time.

"He's a tall boy, but quick and good at technical things. He can play passes and can dribble."

But almost three years on and Grujic has made just 14 appearances for Liverpool’s first-team.

He spent last season at Cardiff and helped the Bluebirds gain promotion to the Premier League.

This season, he is on loan at Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin and it seems he’s doing rather well after a spell out injured.

On Saturday evening, he scored the only goal of the game as Hertha beat Frankfurt.

After the game, his manager, Pal Dardai, said: “I’ve been with Hertha for 22 years. This is no insult to the others, but Marko is by far the best midfielder I’ve seen at Hertha during this period.”

That’s high praise indeed.

But it didn’t stop there.

Every Monday, Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport produce a European Team of the Week made up of players from European leagues excluding Serie A.

And Gruijic makes the XI this week alongside Mohamed Salah and Lionel Messi.

Meanwhile, German outlet Bild has dubbed Grujic as a “midfield boss.”

Very exciting for Liverpool fans.

Still only 22, there’s every chance the Serb can still have a career at Liverpool.

It will certainly be interesting to see what happens to him in the summer. Will he head back out on loan or be given a chance to impress at Anfield?
