The 2018/19 season has been far from kind to Real Madrid.

Los Blancos have already parted ways with one manager in Julen Lopetegui, with the Spaniard's final act being a 5-1 loss away at Barcelona in El Clasico.

Former player Santiago Solari was promoted from the Castilla side to first-team manager and Real have picked up some important wins since his arrival.

However, the performances haven't been great and last night's 3-0 loss to CSKA Moscow was arguably their poorest performance of the season.

The likes of Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric were all rested, but it was still a team littered with quality in Marcelo, Isco, Marco Asensio and Karim Benzema.

However, a number of 'homegrown' younger players were given a chance in Federico Valverde, Marcos Llorente, Jesus Vallejo and Javier Sanchez.

To say they didn't impress would be an understatement, but Dani Carvajal's comments after the game about the youngsters were a tad over the top.

"Three weeks ago there was talk that the homegrown players could play," the defender told Movistar+, per Marca. "But it turns out that they might not worthy of the first team."

Well, that's one way to knock their confidence even more.

With the club clearly going through a difficult season, simply adding to the negativity in the media won't help matters.

Ironically, Carvajal himself would be classed as 'homegrown'...

The Spanish right-back also discussed the jeers aimed at Isco from the crowd during the loss to CSKA.

"I have not seen if he was whistled by the fans or not, but the only thing I can say about Isco is that he has been here for many years and he is a brave player," he added.

"When things are not going well, he asks for the ball and tries to change the game rather than disappear."
