Eddie Hearn has revealed information regarding text messages sent from Wladimir Klitschko to heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, which hint at a potential rematch between the two.

The former unified heavyweight champion Klitschko retired midway through last year after an illustrious career in which he dominated the heavyweight division for over a decade, alongside his brother Vitali.

Since his retirement, the Ukrainian has both hinted at a comeback to the ring, and also denied he is interested in returning to boxing, leaving fans wondering what his intentions are.

When in conversation with iFLTV, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn was quizzed about AJ’s next potential opponents, and also discussed the text messages exchanged between AJ and Klitschko.

Joshua is currently searching for his next fight, with April 13 being booked on the calendar without an actual opponent being identified yet.

AJ has arguably lost relevance in the heavyweight division after Tyson Fury v Deontay Wilder on December 1, despite the fact he holds four world title belts.

Fans are beginning to get frustrated that Joshua seems to be avoiding the big fights, especially Wilder and Fury.

Fans are desperate to see AJ fight either Wilder or heavyweight darling Fury, and Eddie Hearn has suggested that a fight against the American is more likely to happen.

AJ has claimed this week that he does want to fight Wilder, seemingly refusing to accept Fury as a legitimate challenger, but Hearn hasn’t ruled out AJ facing the Gypsy King.

When quizzed on who we would see AJ face on April 13, Hearn said, as per TalkSPORT: “Currently it’s Deontay Wilder, that’s what we want.

“It might be Tyson Fury, it might be with winner of Whyte vs. Chisora, it might be Oleksandr Usyk. It might br Jarrell Miller. Everything’s in play.”

That gives fans no further indication as to the identity of AJ’s next opponent, as they begin to get frustrated with the lack of activity from the AJ camp.

Hearn was then questioned regarding the text messages from Klitschko, and revealed that the Ukrainian has been in touch with AJ regarding a potential return.

“He [Klitschko] wants to come back.”

“I think he text AJ and said: ‘I wanna come back. I feel like I beat everybody in the division right now.”

If these message are correct, this is a strong statement from the former unified heavyweight champion. He was close to a potential rematch at with AJ at the end of 2017, but decided against it.

It is hard to see where Klitschko fits into the best heavyweights in the world at 42-years-old, after being beating by two of the top three ranked fighters in recent years, after falling to defeat against both Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

To keep any credibility within the heavyweight division, AJ would benefit from fighting Fury or Wilder next year, not a 42-year-old Wladimir Klitschko.
