Liverpool target Mathieu Valbuena has set his sights on a Premier League move.

The 26-year-old Marseille midfielder has been linked with a string of clubs, with Liverpool thought to be long-term admirers of the player.

His admission of a desire to play in the Premier League has sparked rumours that the Anfield club could make a move in January.

“My dream is to play in the Premier League, by far the best league in the world. England is a nation where football was invented, and it shows,” said Valbuena.

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has been promised money to spend in the January transfer window, with fresh reports suggesting that NESV will offer a transfer war chest in the region of £40 million to the former Fulham boss.

'Five or six' players have been highlighted by the Reds supremo as he looks to re-build the Anfield squad, and Hodgson is expected to make a move for an attacking midfielder in the opening month of 2011.

A full French international, Valbuena is expected to play against England tonight, with the Liverpool boss set to make the trip to Wembley to scout the player.

Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier is also thought to be interested in the player, and Liverpool will have to fight off the Midlands club due to the French manager's previous relationship with the player.
