It will soon be the five year anniversary of when Michael Schumacher was rushed to hospital, following a severe head injury he sustained after hitting his head on a rock while skiing.

The whole world was shocked with the news of this awful occurrence, but since it was revealed that the former seven-time Formula 1 World Champion was placed in a medically induced coma for six months, back in 2014, updates on his condition have been few and far between.

There is a good reason for this. Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm has stated that Schumacher and his wife Corinna Betsch have always been private people, and therefore the people around them also do their best to maintain this privacy, out of respect for the couple.

“In general the media have never reported on Michael and Corinna’s private life,” Kehm began, per The Mirror. “Once in a long discussion Michael said to me: ‘You don’t need to call me for the next year, I'm disappearing.’

“I think it was his secret dream to be able to do that some day. That’s why now I still want to protect his wishes in that I don’t let anything get out.”

However, the Daily Mail has recently provided an update on Schumacher’s health, revealing that the German is not ‘bed-ridden’ or ‘surviving on tubes’ but is still requiring extensive medical care, costing up to £50,000 according to the report.

It is also claimed, contrary to other reports, Schumacher does live in the main body of his mansion in a secluded area of Switzerland and not in a specialised wing or outbuilding.

Schumacher’s former boss at Ferrari Jean Todt has also recently commented on the legendary racer, confirming that he watched Lewis Hamilton claim his fifth World Championship with the German.

“I’m always careful with such statements, but it is true,” the 72-year-old stated. “I watched the race together with Michael Schumacher in his house in Switzerland.”

With Schumacher approaching his 50th birthday, the news of his health potentially improving will be gratefully accepted by racing fans across the globe. Everyone will be hoping that his health continues to progress over the coming months.
