The WWE had a chance to put on an exciting show when the Tables, Ladders and Chairs pay-per-view took place on Sunday night and given the awful ratings Raw has been receiving lately, they needed it.

It's fair to say the vast majority of superstars delivered in a big way.

AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan put on an absolute clinic for the WWE title and in the first-ever women's TLC match - which main evented the show - the women stole the show.

One of the biggest storylines leading into TLC was the bad blood between Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins.

As former brothers in The Shield, this is the second time the stable has split-up but it is the first time Dean Ambrose has been a solo heel.

Given the electric feud they had in opposite roles back in 2014, fans could be forgiven for expecting an absolute classic between the two former WWE champions.

But, that's not quite what happened. The match lacked any intensity for supposedly the most personal rivalry in the WWE and the crowd found themselves chanting "boring" halfway through.

Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer revealed how Vince McMahon reacted to the match.

"The interest level in the crowd was not with these guys,” Meltzer said. Meltzer added that “there is a lot of reasons that match didn’t work, Vince [McMahon] was furious at it too.”

Rumours have been circulating that Rollins is being groomed to face Brock Lesnar for the Universal title at WrestleMania 35 and Meltzer believes a night like TLC won't stand him in good stead for that.

“Not a good thing for Seth because Seth’s being groomed for big stuff. It’s not a good thing for Dean because Dean is supposed to be a top heel.”

Ambrose had great success as Jon Moxley on the independent scene as an unhinged heel, but the way he has been presented since turning on Rollins has been a far cry from that and it's really missing the mark.

WWE needs to fix this and fast.
