Jurgen Klopp must have been scratching his head wondering how his side weren’t ahead at half-time against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Reds had dominated proceedings and eventually took the lead when Sadio Mane found the back of the net in the 24th-minute after Fabinho’s terrific pass.

They had finally broken the deadline and would surely go on to win the match comfortably.

But, out of nowhere, United equalised.

Alisson should have comfortable caught Romelu Lukaku’s low cross but he only proceeded to fumble it straight to Jesse Lingard.

Lingard stabbed home and Anfield was stunned 12 minutes before the break.

The Brazilian goalkeeper had been the hero just four days previously when he saved Arkadiusz Milik’s late strike vs Napoli to ensure Liverpool progressed to the last-16 of the Champions League.

So it was his teammates’ turn to bail him out.

In fact, a new photo has emerged showing how captain for the day, Virgil van Dijk, attempted to rally Alisson immediately after his gaffe.

With Lingard wheeling off to celebrate in front of the Kop, Van Dijk can be seen in the background picking his goalkeeper off the floor.

The image was posted on Liverpool’s Reddit page and plenty of fans were loving Van Dijk's actions.

One user wrote: “So often when keepers make mistakes they’re left alone by the rest of the team. Not maliciously, but it just happens. I noticed it a lot in teams I played in, where defenders, myself included, would be guilty of this. Great to see VVD showing his leadership abilities here though.”

WhoAmIOdd added: “Actively thinking of others when you're also down is definitely great leadership. Love to see this kind of stuff.”

A third Liverpool fan praised Van Dijk by writing: “A genuine leader. To the extent that when he is on the same team as you, your confidence automatically goes up. Still our best signing in these last years, despite having many other great ones. OK so maybe Mo is there too but whatever :).”

Another simply commented: “Natural Leader.”

Luckily for Alisson, his mistake didn't cost his side.

In the second-half, Xherdan Shaqiri came off the bench to score twice to give Liverpool a 3-1 victory.
