The draw for the Champions League last 16 was made on Monday and it delivered some very juicy ties.Cristiano Ronaldo will return to Madrid to take on Atleti while Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will renew his rivalry with Bayern Munich.It’s at this point in the competition where things get serious and that’s great news for football fans.They say that there are no easy ties in the knockout rounds but avoiding the likes of Barcelona and Manchester City was the aim for those clubs who finished second in the group.Unlucky, Lyon and Schalke.Roma have every chance of progressing to the quarter-final after being drawn against Porto.The Portuguese outfit went unbeaten in Group D, winning five matches, but they won’t scare Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco.
Roma tweet about players 'celebrating' draw
Funnily enough, it was reported by Sky Italia that Roma’s players celebrated drawing Porto.
Italian journalist Tancredi Palmieri wrote on Twitter: “Sky Italy reporting a big scream of celebration at Roma training ground when players saw the draw v Porto.”
Yet, turns out this wasn’t true at all.
Roma quickly denied the report, tweeting: “Pretty hard for the players to scream in celebration when the squad isn't even at Trigoria today...
“A late contender for the Didn't Happen of the Year Awards? #DHOTYA2018”.
Roma clearly don’t stand for any nonsense.
Totti's reaction to the draw
Roma icon Francesco Totti acknowledged that the I Giallorossi are lucky to have avoided one of the favourites - although he quickly pointed out that Porto won’t be pushovers.
“Perhaps we can say we are a bit fortunate [with this draw], looking at some of the other sides we could have faced,” the club director said, per Roma’s official website.
“But Porto are a great side, in good form, they are top of their league and just completed a very strong group stage in this competition.
“They will be a very tough opponent. We will have to be at our best from the first moment.”
The first leg will take place at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday, February 12.
Roma will then travel to Portugal for the return fixture on Wednesday, March 6.
