Manchester United are on the hunt for a new manager.

This comes after the sacking of Jose Mourinho amid a lacklustre season.

He guided United to a second placed finish last term, their highest position since Sir Alex Ferguson’s triumphant curtain closing year of 2013.

However, this campaign is telling a completely different story.

The Red Devils sit sixth, 11 points off top four, 19 adrift of first and Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool proved to be the final nail in the coffin for under-fire Mourinho.

It now poses the question, who will be next in the hot seat?

Gary’s Thoughts

Well, former defender Gary Neville, has looked to Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino as the ideal candidate.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 43-year-old believes he’s ‘somebody who brings the three key principals’ to his side.

“For me the next manager of Man United should be Mauricio Pochettino.

“When I look at values at Man United, I look at his belief in young players,” he said.

“His performance levels, style of play, the way he’s carried himself.

“I was fortunate enough to spend two or three days at Tottenham’s training ground.

“My view is he is somebody who brings the three key principals of the club: style of play, promotion of youth and winning football matches."

“He is the person who is the outstanding candidate.”

Pochettino at Spurs

Pochettino is yet to clinch silverware at Spurs but he has undoubtedly changed things at the club for the better.

Before taking charge in 2014, the North London side failed to reach a higher position than fourth in the top flight since 1990.

Now though, Spurs have finished in the top three in their last three seasons.

This campaign is proving to be no different as Tottenham sit third, six points off top.

And when all seemed impossible, he can also look forward to watching his side feature in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Pochettino’s focus will undoubtedly be firmly on Spurs at the moment but a move to Old Trafford at the end of the season could be very tempting.

For now though, The Red Devils are on the search for a caretaker manager to see out the campaign and an appointment is likely to be made in the next 24 hours.
