Anthony Joshua has been set to fight at Wembley next spring for some time now, but who his opponent could potentially be has been left to rumours.

For a long spell this year it seemed that Deontay Wilder would be the man to be on the other side of the ring, however after Wilder's controversial draw against Tyson Fury at the start of the month it looks as though that fight may be some way off yet - which is widely regarded as the fight Joshua wants most.

And after heading to New York to watch Canelo Alvarez’s debut at a sold-out Madison Square Garden, Joshua has been reported to have loved his time there so much that he would be willing to fight there in summer.

This would open up Wembley stadium in April and Eddie Hearn has been quick to consider who else could main event Wembley on that date.

According to Boxing Scene, Hearn is believed to be seriously considering staging an Amir Khan-Kell Brook bout April 13 at Wembley Stadium instead of Joshua’s next fight.

Amir Khan has not agreed yet to any fight involving fellow Brit Kell Brook, but if the money and setting is right then we could be set to see a completely different fight staged at Wembley than what has been talked about throughout the autumn.

Hearn knows he would need the money to entice Khan to Wembley as the Brit has been offered a guaranteed $5 million by Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc. to fight Terence Crawford at Madison Square Garden in March next year - but crucially has not agreed to any contract yet.

Of course, Khan and Brook have been talking about a possible fight against each other for years and now both are considered by many to be past their best there will be some concerns if it will be big enough to justify such a big stadium.

Joshua has of course not agreed to anything in America yet but has stressed the desire to fight across the Atlantic at some point in his career.

So unless Hearn can somehow reach an agreement with Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury, Joshua's next outing may yet be pushed further back into 2019.
