Jose Mourinho was sacked as Manchester United on Tuesday morning after a disappointing first half of the season has left the Red Devils 19 points off the pace in sixth position.

The reaction was mixed amongst fans with some blaming the players for the club's demise whereas others have expressed their delight at the Portuguese's departure.

The final nail in the coffin came when Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool soundly beat United 3-1, with Mourinho's men offering minimal resistance.

Now that the dust is beginning to settle on his departure, fans are already looking to the future and therefore a managerial replacement.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's name has been thrown around quite significantly as an option for caretaker boss, the current Molde coach is a cult-hero for United famously scoring a last-minute winner in the 1999 Champions League final versus Bayern Munich.

However, a permanent replacement would be more ideal for the club and the United faithful.

Initially, former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane was on everyone's lips as Mourinho's successor but this seems to have fizzled out over time.

Now the manager that is not only the favourite to get the job but also a popular choice amongst the United fans is Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine has shone as Spurs boss ever since taking the reigns back in 2014 and remained tight-lipped when confronted with the inevitable question regarding the role in a recent press conference.

But his true feelings on the vacancy now seem apparent as Utd Xtra (@utdxtra) has posted on their Twitter account that he is interested and would struggle to turn down such a role.

In what has been a rollercoaster for United fans and players alike, it looks like the Red Devils could have their desired appointment sooner rather than later.
