Jose Mourinho's departure from Manchester United seemed all but a formality after a disastrous start to the season.

However, many thought the Red Devils would at least hold off until the end of the season, but Ed Woodward and the board pulled the trigger yesterday morning.

Former United striker Ole Gunner Solskjaer is expected to come in as interim boss after his achievements over in Norway with Molde.

Fans will be hoping that the scorer of the winning goal in the 1999 Champions League football can bring an attacking style of play back to Old Trafford.

The onus will also be on him to rebuild relationships between the club and certain players.

Paul Pogba will, of course, be the primary objective, with the Frenchman's relationship with Mourinho deteriorating over time.

He publicly criticised Mourinho's tactics and was called out numerous times in press conferences by the Portuguese boss.

Inside sources even claimed that Mourinho labelled Pogba a "virus" after the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

So it's not a surprise to hear that the French World Cup winner was happy with Mourinho's exit on Tuesday morning.

However, according to the Mirror, his behaviour on the training ground was pretty disrespectful.

The paper report that Pogba actually high-fived his teammates once the news was broken to them by Woodward.

A sign of just how toxic the atmosphere has become at the club.

Luke Shaw was also said to be smiling throughout training, as his feud with Mourinho was renewed in recent weeks after some lacklustre performance.

An inside source said about the dressing room yesterday: “No-one wants to see anyone lose their job, but it was a completely different mood as players were happy again, smiling and could get on with training.

“The mood from one day to the next was like night and day.”

Surely things can't get worse under Solskjaer, can they?
