Alisson Becker has been terrific for Liverpool this season.

The Reds had troubles with their goalkeepers for some time.

Ever since Pepe Reina left the club in 2014, Liverpool had not had a reliable 'keeper between the sticks.

But that seems to have changed this season.

Jurgen Klopp decided to spend £66.8 million on the Brazilian goalkeeper in the summer and that seems to be money well spent.

He proved his worth once again last week by producing a dramatic late stop to deny Arkadiusz Milik and ensure Liverpool narrowly progressed to the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

However, just days after that miraculous stop, Alisson produced an error which led to Manchester United equalising against Liverpool.

Alisson spilled Romelu Lukaku's cross right into the path of Jesse Lingard, who gobbled up the opportunity and netted with ease.

Liverpool went on to win 3-1, but the 26-year-old would still have been disappointed with the error.

Virgil van Dijk was spotted helping Alisson up immediately after the mistake and he has now explained what he told him.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Van Dijk said: “I said to him, ‘We have no clean sheet because of you! Why did you ruin the clean sheet?’

“I made a joke out of it. He’s been fantastic for us. It happens, everyone makes mistakes.

“You see it a lot… maybe I didn’t react as well as maybe I could have. It happens sometimes. We had to all bounce back and we did.

“It was very important to win. You could say it was just another game but it was a bit special because it was against them.

“It had been a long time since we beat them at home and it was well deserved.”

Brilliant stuff from Van Dijk. Even in such an important game, Van Dijk was still making jokes in order to put Alisson's mind at ease.

It's no wonder he's quickly become a fan-favourite at Liverpool, despite only being at the club for 11 months.
