When it was announced during SmackDown Live this past week that Mustafa Ali had officially been added to the main roster, WWE fans let out a collective gasp and tweeted their excitement.

Hardcore fans who are regular viewers of 205 Live know all about what Ali can do in the ring, even going back to the Cruiserweight Classic in the summer of 2016 where he showcased his talents.

But the more casual fans may have become more exposed to him when he starred in a great match on the main Survivor Series card against Buddy Murphy.

That clearly impressed Vince McMahon, because last week Ali took on WWE Champion Daniel Bryan, and despite being on the losing end, he showed enough inside the squared circle to be offered a permanent roster place.

It got even better for Ali this week as he was given a main event slot on the blue brand, teaming with AJ Styles to face Bryan and Andrade 'Cien' Almas.

And to the surprise of many, Ali picked up the pinfall win over 'The New' Bryan with his patented '054 Splash' - an inverted 450.

To the worry of many though, it seemed like Ali had botched the move as his knee looked to have struck Bryan in the throat or chest, which could have caused serious injury - Ali even audibly apologised to Bryan whilst pinning him.

Ali appeared on former WWE ring announcer Lillian Garcia's podcast before his full-time call-up, and what seems ironic now is his '054' was discussed in worrying terms.

"I’m sure my opponents aren’t going to be thrilled to hear this, but I don’t know what I’m doing up there," Ali stated, as per Cageside Seats.

"I literally close my eyes and I just jump. My body just takes over and thankfully I haven’t hurt anybody. I jump and I tuck.

"I don’t know what happens and somehow I land where I land. I know my body and I know what I’m comfortable with.”

Sounds particularly concerning when you read it, but reports have circulated that Bryan wasn't actually injured from the move, so Ali should be safe for now.

But if something like that happens again, don't be surprised to see Ali with a new finishing move.
