Mario Balotelli was singled out for a noteworthy career from a very young age - although few could have predicted the actual path.
From unruly prodigy at Internazionale to misunderstood talent at Manchester City, the early years for Balotelli were a mix of brilliant and bizarre.
Two decent years with AC Milan followed before Balotelli underwent a terrible year with Liverpool and a subsequent year back at Milan that was equally as disappointing.
He's fallen off the radar somewhat in recent years, mainly because he has played consistently well for the last two years with Nice in Ligue 1.
This year, however, the madness has returned.
Balotelli has publicly fallen out with Nice boss and former teammate Patrick Vieira after a move to Marseille broke down in the summer.
The result of that was been a goalless season so far and Balotelli is now not even making the squad at Nice.
And according to a report in the Mirror, things are set for another tumble.
Balotelli has been told that his contract will not be renewed once it expires at the end of the season.
On top of that, the Italian could very well be sold in January with Vieira simply saying: “He is under contract. Anything is possible" when the question was put to him.
It's quite a rapid downfall for Balotelli, even by his standards.
He'd bagged 43 goals in just two seasons for the French club, the two best goalscoring seasons of his career, and signed a new one-year deal in the summer.
But now they seemingly can't wait to get rid of him just a few months later - even though Nice are the second lowest scorers in the league and in desperate need of some goals.
A return to Serie A now looks likely for Balotelli, although how could you possibly guess what's going to happen next?
