Manchester United began the post-Jose Mourinho era with an absolute bang on Saturday evening as they thrashed Cardiff City 5-1 in Wales.

Long-range strikes from Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera put them in charge, Anthony Martial coolly finished off a stunning team move and Jesse Lingard scored a brace in the second-half.

In Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first match as caretaker manager, Man Utd scored five goals in a Premier League match for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson's final game as boss.

However, what was even more eye-catching was the purposeful, attack-minded and energetic nature of the performance, particularly from star player Paul Pogba.

The high-profile midfielder put in an impressive performance against Cardiff and his actions towards a section of the away supporters at full-time were just as classy.

Pogba shining again after tough Mourinho ending

Pogba failed to make the starting XI for Mourinho's final three league games in charge at Old Trafford against Arsenal, Fulham and Liverpool.

However, he lined up for ex-United striker Solskjaer in a three-man midfield alongside Herrera and Nemanja Matic and provided three assists to round off a top display.

Viewers of Cardiff 1-5 Man Utd noticed the increased intensity and work-rate from the Red Devils off the ball, and in many respects, it was Pogba who led the way in that regard.

The French World Cup winner produced some great work both in and out of possession to link midfield and attack and showcased his undeniable quality on many occasions.

Pogba's gesture at FT of Cardiff 1-5 Man Utd

After the final whistle, the Man United team went over to the away section of the Cardiff City Stadium to thank their fans, where Pogba shared an embrace with new coach Solskjaer.

The 25-year-old wasn't finished there, however, and he showed no hesitation in getting up close and personal with United's supporters, as you can see below.

Pogba climbed over the advertising hoardings, had no issue being mobbed by fans and gave one young child a memory they'll never forget by gifting him his shirt from the game.

The talented Frenchman seems to have a strong bond with Man United fans, and they'll be hoping he can produce more top-class performances on a regular basis.

With upcoming games against Huddersfield Town, Bournemouth, Newcastle United and Reading in the FA Cup, Pogba and Solskjaer's side have a great chance to build real momentum.
