Carl Froch was once the king of Wembley Stadium in boxing. His infamous first battle against George Groves was a memorable fight to say the least. But, Froch has since made sure of this to the absolute extreme. There are not many fans in the boxing community that, when they turn on their latest box office fight, won’t have the pleasure of listening to Froch refer to the biggest fight of his career. The words ‘did you know’ are undoubtedly followed by some reference to fighting in front of 80,000 people at Wembley Stadium. In fact, post-fight, you’ll find it hard to find an interview without him saying it.It almost became a tradition - one that most British fighters have had the pleasure of embracing.Non-more so than Anthony Joshua. The current IBF WBA and WBO heavyweight champion of the world has been known to refer to Froch’s trademark line in interviews having fought at Wembley himself too.And he was at it yet again during the Dillian Whyte vs Dereck Chisora rematch last night. After the fight, when Joshua’s rival proved victorious and called him out, Joshua appeared to be venting some amount of frustration. He slammed the commentary table in annoyance after seeing his long, bitter rival get the knockout in the 11th round. But, before that, and the fight, Joshua definitely brought his personality to the table… quite literally. He joined Carl Froch as a pundit for the fight and found the perfect way to bring up Froch’s fight at Wembley. On a question about the influence of the O2 Arena having both fought there, Joshua jokingly tested Froch with a reference to his big stage fight.

“I think for Carl, this ain’t his league. He’s used to the 80,000, isn’t he?” joked Joshua, in a spirited response that got everyone on Twitter laughing.

Froch, who was sat right beside Joshua, turned to give him a look and chose to laugh it off.

Probably the influence of sitting next to the most decorated current heavyweight world champion.
