Philippe Coutinho became the second most expensive footballer of all time when Barcelona signed him from Liverpool back in January.

The Catalan giants forked out an eye-watering £142 million for the Brazilian playmaker, who established his status as one of the Premier League’s best attacking stars during his five-year spell at Anfield.

It was an offer that Liverpool couldn’t turn down, particularly as Coutinho had made it abundantly clear that he wanted to move to the Camp Nou.

Barça identified Coutinho as a replacement for Neymar, who’d completed his world-record move to Paris Saint-Germain months earlier and had left a void at his former club.

His first half-season with the La Liga champions was encouraging; 10 goals in 22 appearances was a decent return from the 26-year-old.

However, Coutinho has played the same number of games for Barça this season and has only managed to net a disappointing five goals.

Eleven months on from his big-money move, Barça fans have made their feelings clear about the Brazil international, as identified by Liverpool supporters on Reddit.

Following Coutinho’s substitute appearance in Barça’s 2-0 win over Celta Vigo on Saturday, the club’s fans took to barcaforum.com to voice their strong opinions about the team’s most expensive player.

It’s fair to say that most of them don’t really rate him.

You can view all of the fan’s thoughts HERE, but here are a selection of the most eyebrow-raising posts…

xXKonan: “With some attacking midfielders, they can adapt well on the wing but Coutinho is not one of them.

“Doesn't have the pace and work rate is questionable there as well. He often complicates things with the ball and doesn't have any chemistry with Alba whatsoever.”

Sorin: “Is there a mf out there that likes to complicate things as much as this guy? How many times did this guy needlessly spin like a headless chicken instead of giving a simple pass that would have advanced the attack way better? That's not an issue with his position, it's an issue with his head.

“He does the same s*** as Neymar but without even half his other qualities like speed, goal scoring, playmaking etc.

“Just a reminder that this guy has cost us 160m and came as a bonafide superstar. Meanwhile the work in progress and the much blamed Dembele has been our second most decisive player.”

Messigician: “Don't need him.

“Dembele is faster, has a higher ceiling, and is building team chemistry.

“What can Coutinho do Dembele cant on the wing?

“Stupid stupid decision buying Coutinho.”

Barcilliant: “He needs to raise his work ethic and modify his game. At the moment he is simply not good enough attack or defense wise. His mind just isn't there. I don't know if it's Valverde, personal issues or just a dip in form but he seems very out of sorts.”

Catta: “No difference between him and Denis. At the start of the season Dembele looked like the biggest transfer flop, but now the tables have turned, Dembele is playing better and better and Coutinho is just s***.”

Damning stuff. Coutinho is clearly struggling in his second season at the Camp Nou.

Liverpool, on the other hand, continue to flourish without the South American superstar.

Jurgen Klopp’s side now sit four points clear at the top of the Premier League table after Manchester City suffered a shock 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
