Manchester United got off to the best possible start in the post-Mourinho era when they defeated Cardiff 5-1 on Saturday.

Mourinho was sacked on Tuesday and Alan Shearer noted how it was the right decision as something had to change.

"For the first time in a Premier League game this season, United outran their opponents," Shearer said on Match of the Day, per the Daily Star.

"It helps when you score an early goal - that gives a team confidence - but there was so much more from that United team than we've seen in recent weeks.

"There's no doubt about it. Those players had stopped running for the previous manager. They weren't running for him.

"It was the right decision because something had to change. They weren't giving as much as they should have.

"They can't get rid of all the players so they had to get rid of the manager."

One of the reasons for Man United decided to sack Mourinho was his treatment of his players, especially their youngsters.

Mourinho fell out with a number of United's younger players, including Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw.

And the Mirror  have now revealed a story that shows Mourinho didn't have much time for helping develop youth at the club.

They write: "When a coveted schoolboy player visited United’s Carrington training ground recently, Mourinho was asked if he would spend a few minutes talking to the youngster and his parents.

"'I’ll speak to them if they are still here at 4.30pm,'" was the manager’s response - despite that fact it was nine o’clock in the morning.

That certainly doesn't reflect very well on Mourinho.

That schoolboy could turn out to be the next big thing in football, and Mourinho had a golden opportunity to try and convince him to join the club.

But, he clearly was of no importance to Mourinho, telling him he had to wait seven and a half hours if he wished to speak with him.

All he had to do was speak to him for a few minutes, but the Portuguese manager was clearly reluctant to spare any of his time.

It's no wonder he fell out with a number of his players at the club.

Mourinho's man management skills have often come into question and this story highlights that he is lacking in that department.
