British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has had another successful year in the sport with the bigwigs under Matchroom Sport registering wins throughout 2018, with the latest being Dillian Whyte.

Whyte secured a brilliant victory against Dereck Chisora at the O2 Arena on Saturday via an 11th round knockout and is in contention to fight Anthony Joshua next.

Meanwhile, Hearn revealed that he had been speaking with Tyson Fury lately, and somewhat suggested the former heavyweight champion might be having issues with promoter Frank Warren.

Speaking during the aftermath of the contest between Whyte and Chisora, Hearn said: “Yeah he [Fury] text me a few times, we’ve spoken a few times,” according to The Metro.

Fury delivered an incredible performance against Deontay Wilder, which resulted in a split-draw on December 1 in Los Angeles, although the result has garnered debate in several quarters.

“Look, Joshua wants to be undisputed and if he can’t get that then he looks at Fury and Dillian. But these guys aren’t lapdogs. They’re not going to turn around and say, ‘Yep, alright, just tell me what the deal is and I’ll be there,’ continued Hearn about the probable future opponents of AJ in 2019.

“So these guys, they’re not just a voluntary pick where they’re over the moon to get a shot. They’re in position. So whether it’s Dillian, whether it’s Fury, whether it’s Jarrell Miller, whether it’s Wilder.”

Asked if the deal between Joshua and Fury would encounter complications since Hearn doesn’t share a good relationship with Warren, the Matchroom Sport boss replied with a smile: “Is he [Fury] with Frank? Well if he’s calling me…”

Hearn ended the statement leaving it to the imagination that tension might be brewing between Fury and Warren.

The Brit also disclosed that when the 30-year-old first returned to boxing Hearn wanted Fury to take on Whyte in his proposed three-fight deal.

He concluded by saying: “Yeah, that’s a great fight. We tried to make that fight before. When Tyson Fury came back, I wanted to do a three-fight deal: warm-up fight, Tony Bellew, Dillian Whyte. Whyte-Fury is a massive fight. That’s a Wembley fight.”

Fury is considering the rematch with Wilder but at present wants to take a break before coming to a conclusion. Only time will tell what the future holds for the former champion as well as who Hearn announces as the next opponent of Joshua for the blockbuster April 13 fight at Wembley.
