SmackDown Live stars did battle on a special Christmas Day edition of the show, but in reality the stars of WWE got a well-deserved holiday.

The show was taped last week following the December 18 edition of the blue brands show, but are back in live action starting from this evening.

It was a good episode though, as Shane McMahon finally agreed to form a tag team with The Miz after all of his persistence, and we finally got to see a match between Samoa Joe and Jeff Hardy.

Viewers thought that the United States Championship match between Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev was set to close the show, but following the match it cut to a backstage sequence between Vince McMahon and AJ Styles.

But literally no-one foresaw what was about to happen to close the episode last night.

The interaction between the two started when McMahon bizarrely asked Styles what his name was, as he went on to list all the accomplishments he'd achieved in the WWE during his near-three-year tenure.

But the Chairman decided to poke the fire inside Styles by questioning why he wasn't competing in the 'house that he built' as 'The New' Daniel Bryan ran amok.

And when McMahon claimed that he knew Styles had a 'black hole within his heart', before slapping him round the face, it all proved too much for the former two-time WWE Champion.

Styles landed a hard right hand around the face of McMahon before being held back by producers and referees, and to be honest - the punch looked vicious.

Nice to see Vince is still willing to take shots at his age.

We're not sure if this is a heel turn for Styles, but considering he lost clean to Bryan at TLC, another shot at the WWE Championship shouldn't really be on the agenda.

Rumours have pointed to a WrestleMania match with Randy Orton but that is just gossip for now, however that is a bout which is 13 years in the making and one WWE fans would welcome.
