Barry Hearn has suggested a huge fight for Chris Eubank Jr in 2019 as the turn of the year comes close.

Eubank Jr who has not fought since a routine win over JJ McDonagh in September and was rumoured to be in talks with James DeGale over a potential match-up next year.

However, Hearn thinks the 29-year-old should actually be trying to organise a potentially far more lucrative clash against Gennady Golovkin.

“I think he’s got huge potential. Tremendous hand speed. I think he’s got a great chin like his Dad," he told Seconds Out.

"He’s going to fight James DeGale next sometime somewhere? What does that mean? I think DeGale is not going forward but can still fight a bit.

"Does it sell out? – Does it do numbers on pay per view? Now is the time I think to fight Golovkin.”

Hearn senior believes Chris Eubank senior hasn’t guided his son correctly in his professional career and hasn’t really progressed as a fighter in recent years partly due to training himself and directing his own career.

Golovkin does not currently have an opponent lined up after losing his second fight against current super middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, a clash which many believe he actually won.

However, as ‘Canelo’ recently became a three-weight world champion by beating Rocky Fielding in New York he will be looking for his next payday and a trilogy fight against former champion, Triple G is likely to be near the top of his wishlist.

Meanwhile, Eubank Jr is still in the process of rebuilding his career following his loss to George Groves in the World Boxing Super Series in February.

The super-middleweight fighter used to be under the promotional banner Matchroom until a disagreement between Eddie Hearn and Eubank senior meant they went their separate ways.

At 29, he is theoretically supposed to be approaching the peak years of his fighting career and a win against James DeGale would definitely put Eubank Jr back in contention of a title shot as he is currently ranked fourth in the division.

Nevertheless, the lure of facing a modern-day legend of the sport may prove too difficult to resist if a deal can be reached.
