Palermo strengthened their chances of gaining a promotion back to Serie A with a convincing 3-0 win against Ascoli on Thursday. At the start of the season, Rosanero were forced to sell a number of their star players due to financial difficulties. But, they've well and truly put that setback behind them.Going into their game against Ascoli, Palermo had lost just one of their opening 16 games and sat first in Serie B.And they picked up their ninth win of the season with a comprehensive victory. They broke the deadlock after 26 minutes, before two goals in the final 15 minutes gave them all three points.Their first goal, an own-goal by Filippo Perucchini, has been shared all across social media. That's because Perucchini, a former AC Milan youngster, scored perhaps the own goal of 2018.With Ascoli's right-back under pressure from a Palermo player, he passed it back to his goalkeeper to try and escape the danger. However, Perucchini would have a moment of madness that he will never be able to forget.Under pressure from the same player, the Italian goalkeeper moved across his box, before trying a skill right in front of his goal. But, he got it horribly wrong, stumbling on the ball and then scuffing it in the net. That is just disastrous. The clip has amassed over 2,000 retweets and rapidly rising. You've got to feel sorry for him, though. He genuinely looked distraught as he put his hands on his head and sat there for a few seconds motionless. He will want to forget that moment in a hurry but, unfortunately, that's the sort of mistake that will stick with him for the rest of his life.Unsurprisingly, the clip has been doing the rounds on social media. One viewer, @James_Dart, suggested it was the own goal of the year and he could well be right.

While others simply expressed their amazement.

Unfortunately, he would concede twice more as Ascoli slipped to 12th in the table.

Definitely a day to forget for Perucchini and anyone connected with Ascoli.
