Naoya Inoue, a Japanese boxer in the bantamweight class, won Knockout of the Year from Ring Magazine following his 70-second fight with Dominican boxer Juan Carlos Payano earlier this year. The fight happened on October 7 in the quater-finals of the World Boxing Super Series at the Yokohama Arena, Yokohama, Japan. Inoue was the second seed for the tournament after beating British fighter Jamie McDonall to the WBA bantamweight title in May.He also won that fight in impressive style. The fight would go onto last just 70 seconds before Payano hit the canvas in brutal fashion. This was showing that the "Monster" Inoue was on top of his game to try and reach the final of the competition. The fight would gain Inoue a large fan base, not just from his home nation of Japan, but across the globe, as he was defeating his opponents in dramatic fashion. This knockout was always going to be a contender for KO for the Year after Inoue hit him with a straight left, followed by a vicious right hook, putting Payano flat on his back in the corner of the ring just 70 seconds after the fight had gotten underway. This KO beat the likes of some of the sport's greatest boxers this year, such as Oleksander Usyk's KO to Tony Bellew, Toefimo Lopez KO on Mason Menard and Alexander Povetkin's KO on David Price.

The KO was not picture perfect, but certainly took top spot in this year's knockout awards.

It was a first round KO, which could have left fans a tad annoyed, especially if they were expecting a fight that would last for a few more rounds.

However, there can be no arguments regarding the knockout itself, and it should be no surprise that it won Knockout of the Year.

Let's hope the next winner of the award has the same fortune as Inoue did.
