Ever Banega's stats compared to Arsenal's midfielders in 2018/19 are very impressive

Sevilla's Ever Banega

Arsenal are said to be pursuing an £18m deal for Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega.

According to The Sun, Unai Emery is desperate to land his former player to bolster his midfield options for the second-half of the season.

The new Arsenal boss has shown an evident lack of faith in Mesut Ozil, while Aaron Ramsey is set to leave the club in the near future.

Emery seems set on a midfield three going forward, with Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi the trio used in recent games.

It's been noted by many fans that Guendouzi has struggled with such an enormous workload at the tender age of 19.

Banega's arrival would surely see the Argentine usurp the Frenchman, but just what else would he offer Emery's side?

Well, his statistics in the league this season with Sevilla say so much about why the Arsenal boss wants the 30-year-old.

Banega on the ball vs Valencia

Is any more proof needed to see what Banega would bring to this Arsenal side? A player who can dictate games and help protect the Gunners' leaky defence.

The experienced Argentine is also producing these numbers in one of La Liga's best sides in 2018/19, with Sevilla currently second behind Barcelona.

During the World Cup, a weak Argentina side was noticeably better with Banega in the side, with the 30-year-old providing a sumptuous assist for Lionel Messi's wonder-goal against Nigeria.

Banega vs Nigeria

The fact he can do that while contributing defensively - unlike Ozil - is exactly why Emery wants his former midfield general.

And at £18m, it's not like Banega would represent an expensive risk in January in the current transfer market.
