It was always thought that AJ Styles would never make it to the WWE and if he did, Vince McMahon would absolutely destroy someone who was a big part of a rival promotion's success.

Little did fans know that The Phenomenal One would quickly impress Vince to such an extent that SmackDown LIVE still revolves around him following a brilliant stint as WWE Champion.

However, it's clear that his career is winding down and fans probably don't have that long to enjoy Styles while he can still move like he can in the middle of the ring.

Despite the success the former TNA star has had in the WWE, Vince wasn't impressed right off the bat.

In an interview with Fightful.com, former WWE writer Jimmy Jacobs revealed how Vince felt about Styles when he finally arrived at WWE back in 2016.

Jacobs revealed that Vince was initially very skeptical, however, Vince showed his genius after being won over by Styles and placed him in a feud with Roman Reigns after rejecting ideas the creative team had pitched.

FEUD

According to No DQ, he said: "When AJ Styles came into WWE, Vince McMahon was skeptical of him for every reason you might think.

"He came in at Royal Rumble, got a great reaction when he came in and Vince was still skeptical and said ‘well that’s just one audience.’ Can he talk? What’s his character? Does anybody know who he is? All the reasons you would think.

"But it was Vince McMahon’s idea to have AJ work with Roman Reigns a few months later. We had all pitched our ideas and figured you’d want to give him a strong heel. The strong heels we had at that point were Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens, and Vince was like ‘we’re going with AJ Styles.’

"You have to give the devil his due in those moments.” 

To this day, many claim that both Styles and Reigns had their best matches in WWE against one another, and it's down to Vince that the two went head to head.
