Jon Jones has called out Daniel Cormier for a third-time rematch as he claimed the light-heavyweight belt at UFC 232 yesterday following a victory over Alexander Gustafsson via a third-round knockout.

After putting the belt on, the new champion took to the mic and publicly called out heavyweight champion Cormier inside The Forum, Los Angeles, in what would be the third time the pair have met inside the Octagon.

The undefeated Jones has faced and beaten Cormier is their previous two clashes, despite one result being disqualified due to Jones failing a post-fight drug test.

If the two were to meet again, it would likely be a fight for the light-heavyweight championship, with Jones not wanting to challenge Cormier in the heavyweight division.

The 32-year-old Jones announced yesterday: "I know there is a guy who has been calling himself champ champ," in reference to Cormier who was previously the double champion with both light-heavyweight and heavyweight championships.

The 39-year-old was the first UFC fighter to ever defend two belts in different weight classes.

Jones carried on by saying: "Prove to the fans you're a champ champ. Come get a taste. I'm here. Get your belt back, It'll be waiting right here."

The feud between the two fighters has been an ongoing one, especially after July 2017, where Jones defeated Cormier to claim the light-heavyweight belt only for it to be returned to Cormier after Jones tested positive for oral Turinabol.

The heated post-fight statement from Jones shows the bad blood between the two fighters and leaves UFC fans around the world waiting in anticipation to see if 'Jones vs Cormier III' will happen.

Cormier's reign of double champion came to an end as he relinquished his light-heavyweight belt ahead of UFC 232, to the relief of Jones, who said: "He never beat me. He actually lost to me twice. So relinquishing his belt, it's just like, it wasn't ever really his belt.

"He's giving it up because he knows the rightful owner is here. I feel like he knows that he won't beat me, and so he's making it look honourable by retiring."
