Sami Zayn has revealed some home truths about his time away from WWE after injury

2018 has been pretty tough on Sami Zayn.

What started pretty well after getting a WWE Championship shot at the Royal Rumble, quickly went downhill after WrestleMania 34.

Zayn was involved in a major SmackDown storyline, teaming with Kevin Owens to face Shane McMahon and the returning Daniel Bryan, which ended in a comprehensive defeat for the Canadians.

Both Owens and Zayn moved to Raw in the Superstar Shake-up, with the latter becoming embroiled in a short feud with the returning Bobby Lashley.

Zayn would lose that feud, and almost immediately after the event it was revealed he would depart to undergo surgery on both rotator cuffs, a problem that's plagued him since his main roster debut.

Two weeks ago though, a vignette shown on Raw hyped up Zayn's return to be happening soon, along with Owens after his knee surgery.

The former NXT Champion has set the record straight though, admitting he isn't close to returning just yet, and it will be a 'couple of months' before we see him in the ring again.

Furthermore, Zayn admitted on Chris Jericho's 'Talk Is Jericho' podcast that whilst he misses competing a little bit, he isn't 'itching' to return anytime soon.

Sami Zayn will return to WWE in the next few months, but has stated he's not 'itching' to return to the business after injury.

"I know [pro] wrestling fans maybe don't want to hear this, but I've been loving being off," Zayn told Jericho, per WrestlingInc.

"I think maybe wrestling fans want to hear, like, 'I can't wait to get back and I miss everything,' but I don't know. I had both shoulders [operated on]. I don't miss it! What is up with that?

"Maybe I'm overstating my lack of desire to return, but I've been doing this a super long time. We're on the road a lot.

"I just know that when I'll be back, I'll probably enjoy it. But I'm not sitting there itching and clawing [to return]. And I don't know that my employer will want to hear that, like, 'does this guy not care?'"

It's a very interesting insight from Zayn and you have to wonder how many other WWE stars feel this way when they get hurt.

Zayn has given a lot to the company in a short period of time and he will only be better for having a prolonged rest when he returns.

And many fans will love to see him get a big push once he steps back into the squared circle.
