The most important match of the 2018-19 Premier League season will take place on Thursday.
Manchester City host Liverpool in a game that will go a long way to determining the outcome of the title race.
The Reds currently lead the way on 54 points, seven more than Man City.
Pep Guardiola’s side cannot afford to lose anymore ground on Liverpool following a really difficult December.
The reigning champions lost three matches in the final month of 2018, allowing Liverpool to establish an advantage at the top of the table.
Whether the gap is extended to 10 points, remains seven points or is reduced to four points, the encounter at the Etihad Stadium is not to be missed.
Football fans can only hope that the game isn’t decided by a major refereeing incident and it will be left to Anthony Taylor to ensure that it is officiated appropriately.
Liverpool fans upset with Taylor
The decision to appoint Taylor as the referee hasn’t gone down well with many Liverpool fans due to the fact that he was born in Manchester.
Taylor's record in Liverpool matches
However, Liverpool supporters have no reason to be concerned. The club’s record in matches that Taylor has officiated is actually rather impressive.
Per the Liverpool Echo, Taylor has been the referee in 14 games involving Liverpool since he took charge of the infamous 6-1 defeat at Stoke City in May 2015.
Liverpool have lost just one of those games, against Chelsea in May.
In total, Taylor has overseen 32 games involving the Reds, including a 2-2 draw against Man City in 2013, and Liverpool have only lost five of them.
He also took charge of their 4-0 win against West Ham in August.
So any idea that Liverpool are at a disadvantage with Taylor as the referee on Thursday is pretty nonsensical.
Despite their recent run, Jurgen Klopp insists that Man City remain formidable ahead of the meeting.
“We all know, wow, Man City are a fantastic football team and an away game at City, who can go there and think ‘probably we will win?’” Klopp said, per the Mirror.
"No team in the world, not even us.
“So we have to go there and try everything to get a result. That’s what we will try.”News Now - Sport News
